Rocket explores the underground caves and caverns.
Texas history isn't just on the surface. At one time or another, the Indians used caverns and caves for
living and for protection. Ancient pictographs, or drawings, can be seen on the walls of some of the caves.
The main story is highlighted in the light blue sections.
SCOPE This Out! features trivia from the places Rocket visits. There is a whole other world below the surface
of Texas in the form of underground caves and
caverns.

Stalagmites and stalactites grow in underground caverns. They are created from the water that seeps through the rock formations within the caverns.

Stalagmites
or Stalactite...
What's the difference?

Both are icicle-shaped formations, but a stalactite hangs from the ceiling and a stalagmite rises from the ground.

A picture is worth a thousand words...
literally. Indians used pictographs on
cave walls to tell stories or to record
history. The Panther and Parida caves
are home to 4,000 year-old Indian
pictographs. Together, both caves
contain over 300 examples of ARCHAIC
rock art.
