Rocket soars above the mountains of Texas in Big Bend.
Mountains? Yes, mountains. The mountain ranges of Texas begin near El Paso and continue southward along the Rio Grande (which forms the border between Texas and Mexico).
Elephant Rock
Take a good look at this rock formation. Can you see an elephant?
The large curve the Rio Grande makes in the area gives it the name "Big Bend."
Besides mountains, the region features deserts, canyons, waterfalls, and even extinct volcanoes.
Big Bend is home to two major parks:
Big Bend National Park (801,163 acres); and Big Bend Ranch State Park (280,280 acres)
