Rocket has a capital time in Austin.
The city of Austin has been the state capital for more than 150 years. The Texas Capitol building is a beautiful and impressive structure. Its dome looks like the famous dome that tops the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Detroit architect, Elijah E. Meyers, won the Capitol design contest in 1880. He also designed the Michigan and Colorado state capitols.


Meyers' original plan included a square dome, but officials wanted a round dome similar to the U.S. Capitol.
